Akseli Gallen-Kallela: Portrait of Maxim Gorky.
Oil, 1906, 40 x 30 cm
Turku Art Museum.

The winter of 1905-1906 was a time of political unrest in both Russia and Finland. Fleeing from Russia, the revolutionary author Maxim Gorky hid in Akseli Gallen-Kallela's Pirtti studio in the centre of Helsinki, where the artist painted this portrait.

Nice line!
