Andante by Pentti Sammallahti is the music of the streets, passers-by in Tallinn, Estonia on November 27, 1981. Sammallahti’s 3 or 4-bar compositions were originally intended to be only visual signs. This is their first public presentation.

Pentti Sammallahti is the Finnish guest of Mois de la Photo 1996 in Paris, following in the footsteps of Finland's national artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela on his journey to infinity. Sammallahti has developed photographic book art, in which each published photograph is equal to an original print.

“The objectivity of the photograph is a fine thing, even though it may only be apparent. You have a chance to deal with reality which does not always correspond to your own wishes and expectations. You have an opportunity to deal with chance.”
