Photographs

Akseli Gallen-Kallela & Albert Engström, 1931.

Old photographs

Akseli Gallen-Kallela photographed a great deal. These images are from his collection of photographs, which also contains pictures taken by acquaintances and members of the family. The collection includes photographs of individuals and family members, pictures of friends and acquaintances and photographs from many trips in Europe, Africa and America, and of the family’s different homes.

Some 400 digitised old photographs can be viewed, downloaded and used freely on Flickr. The Gallen-Kallela Museum is included in Flickr Commons and there are no copyright restrictions on the use of the images. For more about rights concerning photographs.

Metadata on the museum’s stereoscopic photographs from Africa is available as the downloadable file: GKM_Afrikka-valokuvat_metadata_julkinen. The metadata is published with Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) licence. It can be freely used and processed, also for commercial purposes.

Images of artworks

The museum’s archives of photographs contain a large number of photographs of artworks in the museum’s own collection. Images of works in other collections are available from their owners. Where necessary, the museum will assist in finding images. Enquiries about images suitable for publication can be addressed to the museum. Ask the museum!
