Opening hours

Summer (May – Sept) opening hours

Summer opening hours: Mon – Tues from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday to Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Summer opening hours begin on Monday 15th of M ay 2023. 

Winter  (Sept – May) opening hours

Mon closed Tue. – Sat. 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sun. 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

During midweek holidays museum is open according to Sunday opening hours

Exceptions

Closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 24.-25.12.

Closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day 31.12.-1.1.

Closed due to exhibition changeover 27.2.-10.3.

Closed on Midsummer eve

The café-restaurant is open during museum hours. Tarvaspää Cafe Zoceria offers fine meeting and festive facilities for private and corporate use.

Guided tours

Winter: in English on Saturdays at 3 pm, in Finnish Sundays at 1 pm.

Summer: in English on Saturdays at 3 pm, in Finnish Wednesdays and Sundays at 1 pm.

Participation in the guided tours with the museum ticket.

During the tour you will familiarize yourself with the life of Akseli Gallen-Kallela and his family. Atelier studio Tarvaspää offers a great setting to talk about Finnish architecture and art of Gallen-Kallela. The themes of our current exhibition are introduced during the tour, and you can then continue to the exhibition independently. Most of the exhibition texts are available with English and Swedish translations.

How to find Gallen-Kallela Museum

Tram no. 4 to Munkkiniemi. An approximately 2-kilometre walk via Munkinpuisto park from the Munkkiniemen puistotie (Laajalahden aukio) tram stop.

Bus 502 (Merihaka – Meilahti – Leppävaara) 1,5 km from the Tarvaspääntie stop.

Bus 113 (Westend – Tapiola (M) – Leppävaara), approximately 1.5 km from the Majurinkulma stop.

Bus 202 (Helmipöllönmäki – Leppävaara – Vitikka), approximately 1.5 km from the Tarvaspääntie stop .

Bus 550 (Westend – Leppävaara – Itäkeskus) 1.6 km from the Säteri stop.

The Gallen-Kallela Museum is in the HSL ticket zone B.

By car from the Vermonsolmu exit on the Turunväylä motorway or from the Kehä I ring road. Follow the signs. HOX! Altered trafic arrangements. If you need a handicap parking space, there is one next to café.
