This book in German focuses on Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s connections with the German art world and Berlin in particular. He spent a period of three months in Berlin during the spring of 1895. This brief but significant period was associated with a change of style in Gallen-Kallela’s oeuvre and his maturing as an artist.
The book is linked to the Gallen-Kallela Museum’s exhibition of the same name addressing Gallen-Kallela’s period in Berlin, and Berlin as a city of the arts, also from the present perspective. It features six contemporary artists: Marcus Eek, Niina Lehtonen Braun, Jukka Korkeila, Elisabeth Mladenov, Olli Piippo and Janne Räisänen, whose work is presented through interviews in the book.
